Dr. Maria Ocampo, Psy.D. (PSY 35755) is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides individual and couples therapy for adults. She integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)—evidence-based approaches that help reduce depression, anxiety, and other emotional challenges, while supporting clients in building effective coping and emotion regulation skills.
Dr. Ocampo also brings a strong foundation in psychodynamic therapy, using insight-oriented techniques to help clients explore unconscious patterns and early life experiences. By deepening understanding of how past relationships and formative events influence current emotional responses and behaviors, she tailors therapy to meet each individual’s unique needs and goals.
She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP–Stanford Psy.D. Consortium, where her research at Stanford Children’s Hospital focused on improving mental health outcomes for parents of infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). She completed her predoctoral internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai within the World Trade Center Program, providing care for 9/11 first responders.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Ocampo served as a faculty member at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and continues to be involved as affiliate faculty. She is also currently completing specialized training in perinatal mental health and is committed to ongoing education in her areas of expertise.
In Her Own Words
“I believe therapy is both an art and a science—a delicate balance between acceptance and change that creates the vessel for transformation. I’ve witnessed how this balance can unlock doors that once seemed permanently sealed.
In my work, I’m fascinated by the deeper roots of what keeps us stuck—those patterns that replay despite our best intentions. I value exploring these depths, but I also attempt to remain firmly grounded in practicality. Together, we won’t just understand why you’re struggling; we’ll build a toolkit of what actually works to move you forward.
I see my role as helping you get back in the driver’s seat of your own life. There’s something profoundly moving about watching someone reclaim their agency and begin steering toward what truly matters to them. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use challenges, or the complex terrain of women’s mental health, I bring both compassion for your struggle and confidence in your capacity for change.
My approach is creative and flexible, weaving together evidence-based methods and a psychodynamic approach tailored specifically to you and your goals. I would like to meet you exactly where you are while helping you envision where you want to go.
The courage it takes to reach out for help never ceases to inspire me. That first step speaks volumes about your resilience and hope. In our work together, I create a space where you can express yourself authentically without judgment, where difficult emotions are met with understanding, and where your strengths are recognized. Life will always present challenges, but through our therapeutic relationship, we’ll discover not just how to manage symptoms but how to cultivate a meaningful and fulfilling life, even in the midst of difficulty—because therapy isn’t just about reducing pain, it’s about expanding possibilities.”
