Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Samantha Hemingway is a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY35349) and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. She provides individual therapy for adults and specializes in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders and anxiety disorders using evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Dr. Hemingway is passionate about helping people break free from patterns that keep them feeling stuck, whether that involves intrusive thoughts, chronic worry, perfectionism, self-criticism, or avoidance. She works collaboratively with clients to develop a clear understanding of the factors maintaining their difficulties and to build practical skills that support meaningful, lasting change.

Prior to joining CPC, Dr. Hemingway completed advanced clinical training in OCD and anxiety treatment at Stanford University School of Medicine, where she continues to practice as a psychologist and serve as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. She has worked across a range of treatment settings, including outpatient clinics and UCLA’s intensive outpatient program, providing evidence-based treatment for individuals with OCD, anxiety, and related concerns. She specializes in evidence-based therapies for OCD and related disorders, panic disorder, phobias, health anxiety, and generalized anxiety. She has extensive experience providing CBT and ERP to adults across a range of clinical settings and is committed to delivering care that is both scientifically grounded and individually tailored.

Dr. Hemingway strives to create a therapy environment that is warm, nonjudgmental, and genuine. She believes that therapy works best when clients feel understood, challenged in the right ways, and supported as they move toward the life they want.

In Her Own Words

“I believe good therapy should equip people with the skills and confidence to navigate life’s challenges long after treatment ends. My goal is not simply to help clients feel better during our sessions, but to help them build lasting tools that support meaningful change in their everyday lives.

My approach to therapy is active, collaborative, and practical. I use evidence-based treatments such as CBT, ERP, and ACT to help clients overcome anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, and other challenges that may be keeping them stuck. I especially enjoy working with clients who are motivated to make meaningful changes and are looking for a focused, goal-oriented approach to treatment. I find it particularly rewarding to work with clients as they move from feeling stuck or overwhelmed to developing greater confidence in their ability to handle uncertainty, discomfort, and life’s challenges.

I am also committed to providing affirming, culturally responsive care to LGBTQIA+ individuals and strive to create a therapeutic space where clients feel respected, understood, and empowered to pursue the life they want.”
